Aluminum 5052 sheet

Aluminum 5052 sheet is a general-purpose aluminum alloy sheet, and 4'x8' aluminum sheet is a commonly used aluminum sheet specification. 5052 4'x8' aluminum sheet is a universal and conventional aluminum sheet. Aluminum 5052 sheet alloy elements: 97.25% Al, 2.5% Mg and 0.25% Cr, density value 2.68 g / cm 3 (0.0968 lb / in 3).

Where can I use aluminum 5052 sheet

Aluminum 5052 sheet is the alloy of choice for marine and chemical applications, while other aluminums will weaken over time. Places of use include aircraft fuel tanks, vandal-proof blinds, road signs, irrigation, rivets, food processing units and cookware; refrigerator liners, utensils, electronic mounting boards and panels, and fan blades and other common applications. Due to its high content of magnesium, 5052 is particularly good at resisting corrosion from chemicals such as concentrated nitric acid. By using a protective layer coating, any other caustic effects can be reduced or even eliminated, making 5052 aluminum alloy attractive for applications that require inert and tough materials.

Features of aluminum 5052 sheet

Among ordinary non-heat-treated aluminum alloys, it has the highest strength and relatively better fatigue strength. Its excellent corrosion resistance makes it very suitable for marine environments. Formability and weldability, workability and wear resistance are all very good. The common tempering type is H32, which is stabilized by rolling hardening and low temperature heat treatment to achieve a quarter hardness.

Mechanical properties of aluminum 5052 under H32 conditions:

Yield strength: 193 MPa

Tensile strength: 228 MPa

Hardness: 61 HB

Aluminum 5052 sheet VS 6061

6061 and 5052 aluminum alloys belong to different series of aluminum alloys and have different uses due to the characteristics of the materials. Generally, 6061 aluminum is most suitable for machining, while 5052 is used for sheet metal and welding applications, which is a direct result of the qualities of each alloy.

6061 aluminum cannot be used as a forming alloy, but can be used as a processing alloy. Machinability is a measure of the response of a metal to die-cutting, milling, turning, or any other machining operation, and can be quantified using certain machinability scales. The workability of 6061 aluminum is good because it is more brittle, which means that smaller alloy fragments (called "chips" in the processing shop) are more likely to break during processing. 5052 aluminum is more difficult to machine. Due to its elastic properties, the chips will become larger, resulting in excessive mold wear and reduced cutting accuracy. Therefore, although 5052 aluminum is the main material for welding plates, 6061 aluminum is a tough processing alloy.
